THE BENEFITS OF CLAY IN SKINCARE

THE BENEFITS OF CLAY IN SKINCARE

If you are like me and don't have time for facials at spa salons, try boosting your skincare regimen in the comfort of your home by applying a weekly or twice-weekly clay face mask.

For centuries, clay powders have been used to draw out impurities, excess oil, and leave skin feeling detoxified, cleaner softer and brighter looking.

There are many types of clay powders ranging from pink, yellow and green french clays, to other types such as bentonite and kaolin. Each type of clay will have a different composition of minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, silica and potassium. These minerals are said to help restore essential minerals to the skin and revitalise dull, tired and congested skin when applied in a mask form.

It is important not to leave the mask to dry on skin for too long as it can be really drying. The best way to use a clay mask is to mix it with the right amount of water into a thick paste, apply on skin for a few minutes until just dry before washing off with warm water.

FRENCH PINK CLAY

French pink clay is a romantic rose coloured clay popular for mature, dry and sensitive skin concerns. It's considered a more 'gentle' clay yet still powerful and effective as any other clay in helping clear clogged pores without drying out your skin.

French Pink Clay is made by combining red illite and the milder white kaolin clays together rather than mined in its natural pink state.

Check out our below creations which contain French pink clay - Pink Clay & Shea butter facial cleanse bar and Exfoliating Pink Clay Mask - A soothing blend of french pink clay, organic aduzki beans and geranium essential oil to exfoliate away dead skin cells for brighter, radiant skin.

FRENCH GREEN CLAY

French Green clay is known for its ability to absorb oils and impurities on skin. It is also known as a type of 'Sea clay' and great for helping with oily, acne prone and congested skin concerns.

You can find French Green clay in our Purifying French Green Clay Mask which we have combined with lavender essential oil to target oily and acne prone skin concerns.

BENTONITE CLAY

A grey/cream-ish coloured clay, Bentonite Clay is a super absorbent, powerhouse clay that is valued for its ability to soak up excess oil, making it ideal for oily and acne prone skin concerns.

Used in clay masks, bentonite clay can help prevent clogged pores and acne breakouts. As it is highly absorbent, avoid using a metal spoon or metal container with this clay beause the clay can absorb the metals and make it less effective.

We use this powerful oil absorbing clay in our Detoxifying Charcoal Sea Kelp Mask to detoxify, absorb oil and leave skin feeling super clean and clear.

WHITE KAOLIN CLAY

One of the mildest clays, White Kaolin Clay is super gentle on skin, has a neutral PH and is a great option for sensitive and mature skin concerns. It can absorb excess oil from skin without irritating and drying out skin to leave your complexion soft and clean.

White kaolin clay is also rich in minerals so we have added this into our clay masks for an extra mineral boost and to make the overall formulation less irritating and drying on your skin.

All the clay powders we choose in your facial masks are 100% natural mineral powders free from nasty chemical additives.
